I'm pretty sure ASHA confuses everyone!

Okay- I have another ASHA problemo/question. I'm debating whether or not to re-pay my ASHA dues and stay an ASHA member. My payment is due in December. However, I work in the schools and I heard you don't techinically have to be an ASHA member to work in the schools. Is this true? It's just so much money! I don't know how much longer I'll even be working and I'm wondering if it's really worth it. I heard you need to have it if you do private therapy, which i have thought about doing, but who knows if that will every happen. Also, I heard that if you let your ASHA membership lapse, you have to retake the Praxis to become a member again. Does anyone know if that is true?? What is everyone else doing?

I just saw how much the ASHA fees/dues are! That is just crazy.

I believe you can work in the schools without ASHA certification. However, you wouldn't be able to have a student and/or supervision a CFY. But maybe that's a good thing :)

I checked ASHA's website and found a link that described getting re-certified. You can find it here:
http://www.asha.org/certification/reinstate_slp.htm. I think taking the PRAXIS depends how long you go without certification. I wouldn't want to take it again.

I know a state license is required for private but I don't know if you need to be ASHA certified.

Those were some good questions. Good luck with your decision.

Way to revive the old blog, Mary.

Do you know if you need ASHA certification to work in the schools in states other than Utah?
