I'm pretty sure ASHA confuses everyone!

Okay- I have another ASHA problemo/question. I'm debating whether or not to re-pay my ASHA dues and stay an ASHA member. My payment is due in December. However, I work in the schools and I heard you don't techinically have to be an ASHA member to work in the schools. Is this true? It's just so much money! I don't know how much longer I'll even be working and I'm wondering if it's really worth it. I heard you need to have it if you do private therapy, which i have thought about doing, but who knows if that will every happen. Also, I heard that if you let your ASHA membership lapse, you have to retake the Praxis to become a member again. Does anyone know if that is true?? What is everyone else doing?

ASHA confuses me

Next question. Are we supposed to sign up for ASHA during our CFYs?

I e-mailed the ASHA Action Center and got this reply:

The NSSLHA-ASHA conversion fee is $336. Our records show that you qualify for the NSSLHA-to-ASHA conversion rate. Please note that the $336 is good through August 31, 2008; that is, August 31 of the following year from the year of graduation. That is, if you submit your application by August 31, 2008, the fee is $336. Please also note that while the $336 is due by August 31, 2008 (grace period),
(a). If your application and payment is received between
now and May 1, 2008, then the payment is applied through December 31, 2008.(b). If your application and payment is received after May 1, 2008 but no later than August 31, 2008, then the payment will be applied to the rest of 2008 and the entire year 2009. (c). However, if your application and payment is received after August 31, 2008, then you will lose the conversion rate and pay a new rate for Recent Graduates of $436. (3). If you join ASHA after twelve months, then your fees is $486. While your NSSHLA membership ends on December 31 of the year your graduate, you do not have to join ASHA while you are doing your CFY. However, if you choose to join ASHA during your CFY, then please submit application forms and the payment, as applications without payment are not processed.

Sincerely,

Nana Aboagye

Sounds to me like I might as well wait about 10 months to get the most bang for my buck.

When can I start my CFY?

Hey everybody. Can you start your CFY before you officially graduate (if you have all graduation requirements completed)? Also, when does someone officially graduate? When they have the piece of paper? The last day of classes for the semester? When grades are reported? I'm applying for CFYs and trying to figure out when my date of availability would be.

ASHA membership

I got that email too and it might be good to apply now to get the discount but I'm going to wait a while...I'll probably apply in November right before my NSSLHA membership expires :)

Registering for ASHA?

Hey guys. I got an e-mail about registering for ASHA membership and certification. Have you all done that? It looks like a pain in the butt (and the wallet). I'm not sure if I can apply yet since I don't quite have my degree.
